Two months!!?!
Holy crap,
It has been two months since I last updated my blog. I can account for the last week or so, but other than that I have no excuse. So, I'll just go over the last week. I just went on a cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy to Cozumel and it was a great time. Here is a description of my cruise:
Saturday
We (my friend Pam and me) arrived in Galveston at just after noon and parked my car in the long term parking lot. We went through all the boarding process and walked straight onboard. If you ever go on a cruise that departs at 4pm, get there at 12. It was so quick getting checked in. We dropped our stuff in our room and went out to the top deck till the ship pulled out. Later that night we ate our first dinner in the main dining room. All of the dinners are 4 course and most were delicious, but I have no idea what I had to eat. My memory is good like that. After dinner we went to the show. It was a bit cheesy but at the end a comedian came out. He was very funny and did some juggling. He juggled a bowling ball, large knife, and an apple. Neat stuff. When we got back to our room, we found a towel animal in the shape of a seal on the turned down bed. Very cool. After that I think we crashed for the night.
Sunday
Sunday was a day at sea, so we got up around noon and had some lunch then went around doing some of the random things they had planned. I should have written this sooner as I can't remember exactly what we did but I think it was mostly a relaxing day. Later that night was the formal dinner. I got dressed up in my full dress uniform and Pam wore a beautiful dress. Sadly I didn't get any pictures from that night but we looked good. After dinner, we changed and laughed about our new towel animal. It was an elephant wearing Pam's pink sunglasses. Then we went to the R rated adult comedy show. The same comedian from the first night was on stage and I just though he was funny before. He brought the audience to tears with some of the jokes he was telling. The only one that really stands out in my memory is (and I'm sure this was much funnier in person) He was talking about the first time he ever did comedy in Texas(He is from California) and he was in Nacogdoches. He pulled into a gas station just outside of town and asked the attendant how to pronounce the name. He said is it pronounced Nac-o-do-ches or Nac-o-dog-ches? To which the attendant politely replied, It's pronounced Go Home Faggot. Anyway. It was funnier when he told it. After that we went to the club onboard and danced for a while before finally going to sleep.
Monday
Monday morning we pulled into Cozumel and went through the debarking process. Because of the pier damage they sustained during Hurricane Wilma last year they only had one pier for ships to dock at and we were not big enough so we had to tender out. That means we had to sit against a small concrete pier in the middle of the basin and have ferry boats take us ashore. We finally got ashore and got straight onto a large catamaran sailboat. This boat took us out to an area of the reef where we were given snorkling gear and let off to go look at the reef. Now this was amazing. The water was so bouyant that even if we didn't have small life vests around our neck we would have floated anyway. Also it was crystal clear. We were about 50 ft above the ocen floor, but you could see as if you were right there. There were tons of pretty fish and even a barracuda! I thought that was cool. Luckily Pam didn't know what a Barracuda was or we would have been out of the water in about 2 seconds. We had an underwater camera but the pictures didn't turn out very well. After snorkling they opened the bar onboard and we drank margaritas and tecate till they pulled up on a private beach. We relaxed in hammocks for an hour and then back on the Cat for the ride back to the boat. On the ride back, a small bat decided to fly around and terrorize the passengers. It was pretty fun to watch everyone run around trying to avoid it. After the bat flew off, they played some music and everyone danced in a rather drunken state till we pulled back into Cozumel. Finally we boarded the ferry and back to the boat. I don't think we did much except for dinner that night because we had to get up the next morning for Progresso. Oh yeah, our towel animal was a small dog of some kind. Cute, but I'm not good with knowing what kind of dog it was.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning we pulled into Progresso, Yucatan and actually got to pull up to the pier this time. We boarded a chartered bus and relaxed for a 1&1/2 hour bus ride down to the Uxmal Mayan Ruins. On the trip down, the tour guide told us a bit about the history of the Mayans and the ruins we were going to see. It was interesting to see the countryside pass as we made our way down. Once we made it to Uxmal it was amazing. We started off going with the tour guide and listening to all the neat things he had to say, but it was 110 degrees with 85% humidity and eventually we had to just leave the group. I went around and got all the pictures I wanted and Pam just relaxed till I was done. After the ruins, we went to eat at the local mexican resturant and the food was delicious. They had chips and salsa before our food arrived and Pam learned that the green sauce is very hot. :) All in all it was a great experience but way too hot. I'm glad I did it though for the pictures. After the bus ride back we did some shopping in the shops near the pier and went back aboard. We went to dinner that night, and fully expected to come back to our room and find another cute animal sitting on our bed. We got to our room and much to our surprise there was nothing on the bed. We were very upset and there was nothing for it but to drink ourselves into an oblivion. So that night we went tot the bar and started into the rum and red bull drinks and went to Karaoke to cheer on the other passengers. I think we were a bit loud but we had fun. We stayed after Karaoke to watch the R rated comedy show and the guy was great. He did comedy making fun of the different accents from the south. We thought it was great. I think we were the loudest group at the show that night. After the show, we met lots of people and started playing 3-man with mixed drinks(151 and coke, Everclear and punch, and Vodka and sprite) If you know anything about 3-man, this is not a very good idea. Lots of fun though. After a few hours of that(or maybe 30 minutes, it's hard to remember much of that night) we went to the club and danced till it closed(around 4). Then we went back to the room and climed in bed. That was when we saw the towel monkey hanging from the wall. I don't want to think about the amount of money that towel monkey cost me. :)-
Wednesday
As you can imagine, we didn't really see much of wednesday. We stayed in be a lot of the day and ate room service. I went out by the pool for a while and watched a few little contests they had, but except for dinner, it was rather uneventful. We got a lobster towel animal on our bed. We packed our things and got ready to go back to the real world.
Thursday we pulled back into Galveston and had to deal with debarking and going through customs. It sucked much more than embarking because everyone was already there waiting to get off.
All in all it was a wonderful cruise and I am glad I did it. I will be posting all the pictures to kevinspics.net later today.
